It connects your browser to your reading session, helps the forms work, and remembers where to return you after confirmation or sign-in. The cookie contains a random identifier, not your email address. You can read public writing without signing in.

Your website sign-in expires after 14 days of inactivity. When you return while signed in, the cookie and sign-in are refreshed for another 14 days. Signing out clears the website cookie. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser, although subscriber reading and the confirmation return may then stop working. Clearing this cookie does not unsubscribe you from the newsletter.

Buttondown handles newsletter subscriptions, confirmation and delivery. Stytch handles email-link sign-in. The website uses your verified email address to check your subscription and keeps session information on the server. Subscription and email preferences are managed in Buttondown.

Netlify hosts this website and processes normal web requests and server logs. There are no advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or analytics scripts in this website. Links to Buttondown, Stytch or other websites take you to services with their own privacy and cookie practices.
